Happy Birthday Gremlins

The Gremlins are one today! I cant believe they are adult cats now. Well the ginger cat Dylan is huge and is bigger than our 6 yrs old cat. The female is still small and petite, but believe me she can hold her own! This is a picture of Dylan as a young kitten exploring!

We got them in June, when they were about 7 weeks old and they were feral farm kittens. When we picked them up they had only ever spend one night indoors ( the night before we got them and that was in a cage!!). So the first few weeks were difficult as they just hissed and hid!, Dylan was suppose to go to our neighbours next door, but when they saw how wild he was they didn't want him as they have two young children, hence we ended up with 3 cats ( not our intention, but now wouldn't change it for anything, and he is such a softie and good natured cat, who loves getting his tummy rubbed!).

Socialising them was initially hard and we had to spend ages with them and keep picking them up and stroking them until the got used to us and human touch. We used to call the female kitten 'Hissy Missy' as she was a tiny black fluffy bundle who just hissed at us all the time! We had to keep them locked up in our dinning room for several weeks before we could let them out and explore and get used to the rest of the house!

Now they are such home cats and hardly go outside! They are still very timid with other people, but with us they are fine. But they can be bribed with food! Terry's little brother fed them a whole packet of ham once as he loved them to come up to him and eat out of his hands! I think they enjoyed it too!

The female kitten is a lap cat and spends hours sitting on my lap, she has this weird habit of sucking her toe! We found out when we picked them up that she was still suckling, and I think this is why she does this, its a comfort thing. If I am on the computer she demands to come onto my lap and will just curl up and sit there whilst I work! Dylan isn't a lap cat at all, but at times cries for fuss and will come up and kiss you ( I mean really kiss you!, lips on lips! yuck!). Especially about 4 AM, getting woken up by being kissed by a cat in the early hours of the morning is not fun!

Our older rescue cat is slowly getting better. He walks like a 90 yr old! But is now eating again, which is a good sign. He is obviously still very tender so I had to give him some more analgesia last night by syringing this into his mouth. It was a battle, but I didnt want him to be in pain! He went outside last night and couldn't get over the fence so went to the toilet in our flower bed!, he hates using the litter tray! Normally he would be told off for this as our cats never go to the toilet in our garden ( just our neighbours LOL!), but poor thing, it is easier to replace a few plants than him!

Last night he slept on the sofa ( his normal routine) but it took his four attempts to get up. When I left to go to work he had gone out again as wasn't in the garden so must of managed to get over the fence. I hope he can get back OK! But poor thing, must of been in agony getting home after the accident. Well that certainly one life shorter!

I just hope baby Wong loves cats as well, I grew up with animals so am used to them! Our neighbours eventually got two rescue cats a mother and daughter. But the mother cat is trying to move in our house! She is now coming in about 4 or 5 time a day and now comes up for fuss, its only Dylan who doesn't like it, the other cats just ignore her!. She is quite a home and will walk past us and go and have a nose upstairs! or in the lounge or dinning room! I am sure when we have a toddler running after her, trying to pull her tail she will want to move back next door again, and our cats will probably want to move in next door as well! !
